The way we manage conflicts needs to take neurodiversity into consideration

I'd like to think I've improved my conflict management skills over the years, but I still have plenty of room for growth!

This week I read Vu Le's post titled, The way we manage conflicts needs to take neurodiversity into consideration. I really appreciated the points he made and I can't get the post out of my head. Here are a few of the items sticking with me:

  • With conflicts, though, most of us are still relying on tools and strategies that may not have been updated to include neurodiversity. This means that while we may be thoughtful about neurodivergent colleagues when everything is going well, we throw this consideration out the window when there’s conflict, relying on the same neurotypical-leaning skills and tactics we were taught.
  • Try a less intense approach [when approaching conflict]. What I’ve observed in working with colleagues, both neurotypical and neurodivergent, is that a direct approach that’s grounded in some grace and possibly humor can be really effective.
There's a lot to consider in Vu's piece. What points are sticking with you?
